Shey Phoksundo lake Trek
Shey Phoksundo lake is one of the beautiful lake of Nepal. It is an amazing place in the trans-mountain region of Nepal which offers a wide range of experiences throughout the journey. A government-registered guide and porter will assist you to complete this adventure.The only way to get there is via trekking.
The trekking to Phoksundo lake begins with a flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj. Another flight from Nepalgunj will take you to Juphal, from where we will gradually start our trek to Phoksundo Lake.
Along the way you will witness the beautiful beaten paths, crossing through many beautiful villages such as Dunai, Chhepka, Jharana, Ringmo villages after then you’ll gradually reach Shey Phoksundo. You’ll mostly trek along the trekking area that lie in the Shey Phoksundo National Park territory. And the returning trail also follows the villages Ringmo, Chhepka, Dunai and finally takes you back to Juphal. A flight from Jupal will take you back to Nepalgunj and another connecting flight will take you back to the Kathmandu valley.
Itinerary of Shey Phoksundo lake Trek
Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu
You will be welcomed with a bookie at the arrival section at the only running International airport here in Nepal i.eTribhuwan International Airport. You will be dropped off at your respective hotel by our staff guide. On the same day as per your wish, our guide staff will help you explore the historical and religious places here in Kathmandu.
Day 2: Explore Kathmandu Valley
It’s your second day here in Nepal where you will be taken to visit the most visited tourist places here in the valley including Patan Durbar Square, Bhaktapur Durbar square, Swayambhunath, and many other places that are listed in World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. On the same day, you will do some shopping to prepare yourself for the Shey Phoksundo lake.
Day 3: Kathmandu to Nepalgunj by bus
Today early in the morning after having our breakfast, you will take a bus from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj which is in the midwestern region of Nepal. Nepalgunj lies in the Terai region of Nepal and it. is also a major city in the midwestern region which is near the India Border. After then we will stay overnight in Nepalgunj
Day 4: Nepalgunj to Juphal by flight and trek to Dunai
Today as looking after the Airport time, you will take a flight to Juphal from Nepalgunj. Juphal is the starting point of the Shey Phoksundo lake trek from where we will gradually start walking. After reaching Juphal from the flight, you will have breakfast over there and then gradually start trekking towards Dunai. It takes around three hours of trek to reach Dunai from Juphal. On the way you’ll follow the trail that goes through Thulo Bheri Valley, Kaladhunga, Bheri River, Roop Ghar, and finally takes you to the beautiful Dunai Village where you’ll be staying overnight.
Day 5: Dunai to Chhepka village
Today after having breakfast you will gradually start descending from Dunai crossing the Bheri River which will take you to Sulighat. Along the you’ll go through Shey Phoksundo National Park check post. Trailing further the Suli Ghad River (Phoksundo Khola) and Kageni through the walnut and maple forest exploring the excellent Tibetan culture, you will reach Chhepka village where you’ll be staying overnight .
Day 6: Chhepka to Jharna Waterfall
Today you’ll witness amazing sight of amazing Shey Phoksundo and get to explore the Jhara waterfall if weather goes well. Jharana waterfall is one of the Nepal’s one of the highest waterfalls and offers a thrilling experience. Walking through the cedar forest will gradually take you to Jharana allowing you to explore the 1083 foot tall waterfall. Along with the amazing glimpses of mountains and valleys and Shey Phoksundo. Overnight stay in Jharana.
Day 7: Jharana to Ringmo
Today after having early breakfast you’ll gradually start ascending by crossing the Jharana over the bridge and passing by the Ranger office, you will reach Ringmo village in the northern end of Phoksundo lake. You will explore the culture and traditions of beautiful Tibetan village that’s Ringmo village local people and know about the lifestyle and practices. Overnight stay at Ringmo Village.
Day 8: Explore Phoksundo Lake and Tshowa Gompa
Today early in the morning, After strolling around the village, you will go to visit Tshowa Gompa near Phoksundo lake. Tshowa Gompa is a 900-year-old Bon monastery which offers a very spiritual ambience and great Buddhist village . The amazing scenery and beautiful freshwater lake Phoksundo is the major highlight of the day. According to the belief of the Buddhists, it is said that there lies an underwater palace in the Shey Phoksundo lake and thus sacred to the followers. Today again You will be staying in Ringmo village one more day
Day 9: Ringmo to Chhepka
After witnessing the beauty of Shey Phoksundo lake, today you will trek back to Chhepka village via Sulighad and Renji village. . Overnight stay in Chhepka
Day 10: Chhepka to Juphal
Today early in the morning after having breakfast you will gradually begin your trekking towards Juphal where the Airport lies. The beautiful farm fields and villages and various cultural groups are the major highlights of the day. Overnight stay in Juphal
Day 11: Fly to Nepalgunj and by bus to Kathmandu
On the morning flight, you will have a return flight to Nepalgunj and then you’ll take bus that connect you to Kathmandu.
Day12: Back to your home country
It’s the time to say bye-bye to the land of Heaven. Our private car will take you to the departure section of Tribhuwan International Airport.

- It is very important to carry a First Aid kit while trekking in the mountains. Some of the essential medicines and first aid kits are as follows.

- Imodium (loperamide)
It is good to consult your physician for Acetazolamide (Diamox), a drug that mitigates the effects of altitude, headache, diarrhoea & vomiting.
- Trekking Tips
- Always carry a First Aid Kit while trekking.
- Do not touch people when they are on the way to temples.
- Beef is prohibited in Nepal. No female animal is killed for food.
- You may not be allowed to enter the inner part of temples and stupas.
- It is better to take permission before using cameras while visiting temples, stupas, and heritage sites.
- Briefs, shorts, bare shoulders, and backs may not be appreciated in rural villages. So, stay comfortably and decently covered.
- Public display of affection is not entertained nicely in rural parts.
- If a Nepali lady hesitates to shake hands with you, it is common in rural parts. It is better to greet with ‘Namaste’ by joining both the palms and it is an appreciated gesture.
- Use a hotel safety box for your valuables.
- While visiting villages, you may not get all the luxuries and modern amenities. So, expecting modern services in rural villages is futile.
- If you have any problems, do not hesitate to ask your guide for solutions
