Overview of Makalu Base Camp Trek
Mount Makalu is known for its spectacular beauty. Makalu is 8,481 meters (27,825 ft) high and located just 19 kilometers away from Mount Everest. Climbing is a highly challenging task and for many years it was not attempted. In the north of the Makalu summit there is a subsidiary peaks known as Chomo Lonzo.
The Makalu Base Camp trek starts from Tumlingtar in the mid-eastern region. This is a trek that takes you in lower landscapes along with green dense forest, river valleys and photogenic gurung village on the way and finally the Makalu Barun National Park.
You can witness breathtaking panoramas view of the Himalayas at high altitude, lakes, and passes to cross to reach the barn, rocky base camp. Makalu Base Camp is situated at 5100m.

You can experience Barun Glacier, the south face of Makalu (8,481m), and a majestic view of Everest and Lhotse from the Base camp. . On the return journey trekkers cross the Tutu La Pass (4,125m) which is now known by the name of Shipton’s Pass.

Itinerary of Makalu Base Camp Trek
Day 1:- Welcome to Kathmandu:
Our team will welcome you at Tribhuwan International Airport on the very first day. You will check in the hotels and explore the Kathmandu valley with our guide staff. On the same day, you will get a chance to visit the historical and religious sites. As Kathmandu is called the City of Temples, you will find a temple after every three houses. The fantastic thing about the capital city is there are seven UNESCO World Heritage
Day 2:- Shopping and preparation for the Trek:
On the second day in Nepal, You will explore the Nepali cultural sites and experience some Nepali foods. Later half, you will shop for the required clothes and materials and make yourself prepare for the Trek. You will also prepare all the documentation permits for the Makalu Base Camp trek on this day.
Day 3: Flight to Tumlingtar and drive to Chichila
Early in the morning we will take 50 minute flight from Kathmandu which will take us to beautiful city Tumlingtar. From there, we will take a jeep and drive about 3 hour on a bumpy road after that we will reach our first camp that is Chichila.
Day 4: Chichilla to Num
After having our breakfast early in the morning we will gradually start walking to our today’s destination passing through Beautiful villages and dense green forest . Then we will pass a ridge line with great views on both sides until we reach Num. Thunder and lightning make interesting displays on Num evenings.
Day 5: Num to Seduwa
After staying in Num early in the morning we will gradually decend until we reach to the land to Arun Khola. From Arun khola now we have ascend up to get Makalu National Park. That’s the place where , we will register our permits and head to the camping site at the top of the village.

Day 6: Seduwa to Tashi gaon
Early in the morning ascend to our today’s destination on the Ipsuwa Khola will be on the west and Kasuwa Khola to the east. Crossing through the hills and villages we will reach Tashi Gaon
Day 7: Tashi Gaon to Khongma
Today , we will trek upwards towards Khongma. Khongma is the last stop before crossing the Shipton La and dropping down into the upper sections of the remote Barun Valley. The green forests are replaced by scrub and rhododendrons that cover the lower reaches of the mountains.
Day 8: Acclimatization Day
On day 8 we will take rest in order to adjust with the high Altitude places. Today we can rest and also take some photograpes .
Day 9: Cross Shipton La and trek to Debotay
After accliamtizing for a today we will ascend toward the summit of the Shipton La. After we reach lake Kalo Pokhari, we will pass over the Keke La at 4,152 m. There, we will have marvelous views of Chamlang 7,319 m, Peak 6 (6,524 m) and Peak 7 (6,758 m). After crossing the Keke La pass, we will descend down we will reach Debotay where we will be staying overnight
Day 10: Debotay to Yangle Kharka
Today we will be passing through a dense forest with Rhododendron which will lead us to the beautiful Baruni River. We will keep waking along with enjoying the view until we arrive at Yangle Kharka situated at the base of the valley.
Day 11: Yangle Kharka to Merek
Today we will trek to Merek. Since we will gain height above 4, 000 meters, we need to be sure to allow our bodies the necessary time for acclimatization.
Day 12: Merek to Shersong
Today early in the morning we will ascend up On our way to Shersong , through yak pastures and boulder fields. Passing through dense today we will finally witness the majestic view of Mount Makalu and we will campsite at Shersong.
Day 13: Finally to Makalu Base Camp
Today from Shersong We will ascend up to Makalu Base Camp from there we will witness the panaromic view of snow-capped mountain after having the best feeling , we will return back to Shersong.
Day 14: Shersong to Yangle Kharka,
Today we will take our last glimpse of Makalu as we will start descending We will start before turning the corner and eventually reaching Yangle Kharka.
Day 15: Yangle kharka to Mumbuk
We will start descending through a rockfall and greenery will capture your heart all the time. Then we will climb up a rock gully until we reach to Mumbuk .
Day 16: Mumbuk to Khongma
Early in the morning we will gradually start descending through the green forest . Then, we will cross the Keke La, Shipton La and Ghungru La. Finally, we will descend to Khogma again.
Day 17: Kongma to Tashi Gaon,
We will descent to the Sherpa town Tashi Gaon will be long and steep.
Day 18: Trek to Num
Today we will first take exit from the Makalu Barun national park. Then we will descend down to Arun Khola and Seduwa. After that, we will hike through a forest and follow our footsteps all the way back down to the river. Finally, we will climb back up the opposite side of the valley to Num
Day 19: Trek to Chichila, Transfer to Tumlingtar,
Again, we will descend To chichila. Today we will spend a night at Tumlingtar and we will be all ready for an early departure to Kathmandu .
Day 20: Fly back to Kathmandu
we catch an flight early in the morning to Kathmandu after our long journey in the mountain. We can take rest and so some shopping around Thamel. Later on evening we will have our farewell dinner (nepali cuisine).
Day 21:Final Depature
As per your ticketing schedule, the 21th day is the day of departure back to your home country. If you are well impressed by the beauty and want to extend your visa period to explore different amazing treks and places, you may do that even on the last day
