International Everest Day 2023: May 29

On 29 May 1953, two people finally stood on top of the highest mountain in the world that’s is Mt. Everest 8848.86m – for the very much first time. Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa reached the summit of Mt. Everest to make history in mountaineering. They became the first people to reach the summit of Everest. Today, May 29, 2023, International Everest Day is being celebrated. The day has significant importance in the mountain tourism of Nepal.

The door to the mountains of Nepal actually opened after the successful ascent of Everest. The conquest of Everest drew the attention of the world to Nepal and people started travelling to the country for adventure tourism. Trekking and climbing became synonymous with Nepal which still is a major share-holder of the Nepali tourism industry.

The development of tourism in Nepal actually started to be noticed only after the Everest ascent. Thousands of people started travelling to Nepal only because of their awareness that Mt. Everest – the highest peak in the world – is in Nepal.

The mountaineering and adventure tourism industry in Nepal now attracts hundreds of thousands of adventurers every year from around the world. After the Everest conquest, hundreds of thousands of people trekked to the Everest region and reached its base camp on the popular Everest Base Camp Trek. Thousands of people have also successfully made it to the top of the highest mountain in the world.

The Everest region trek is one of the most sought after trekking regions in the world topping the list in Nepal. Along with Everest, other regions also started opening up for travellers from around the world. In course of time, Nepal gained popularity in the world as a trekking paradise. The mountain peaks in the northern part of the country became the major attractions.

We, at Khumbu Excursion, feel proud to remember the day when the first humans stepped on top of Everest. And also this year our climber’s successfully summitted Mount Everest along with our Khumbu Excursion Banner,
